Equatorial Guinea gained independence from Spain in 1968, and the discovery of massive oil reserves in the mid-1990s means that the country is now one of the world’s fastest-growing economies. The wealth of the country continues to grow as Equatorial Guinea strengthens its relationship with allies across Africa, Europe, the US and Asia.
H.E. Teodoro Obiang Nguema MbasogoThe President of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea occupies the Head of State, embodies the National Unity and represents the entirety of the Nation. He is the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces of State Security. He is elected through direct, secret and universal suffrage by a relative majority of validly issued votes for a mandate of seven renewable years.
