On the runway, H. E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo received a welcome from the Vice-President of the Republic, Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue, and some members of the Government, such as the Minister for National Security.

In his declarations to the media at the airport, the Head of State explained that the I International Solar Alliance Summit was a new initiative in the fight against climate change because solar energy is renewable, clean and cheap, and could replace the energy deriving from fossil fuels, such as petroleum, which contaminates the atmosphere.

In addition, it is a cheap energy, which the entire population can enjoy. He also recalled that today there are systems of mass exploitation for this source of energy, such as the lighting of large cities. It is an energy that is already being exploited through new technologies.

H.E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo also declared that, during the summit, many countries joined the alliance, so that the project is going to be a significant new strategy against climate change.

Furthermore, the President said that, during the conference, some banking institutions presented options for financing solar projects. Equatorial Guinea has experimented with a system on the Island of Annobón through a project which, at the moment, is in progress.

Before concluding his declarations, the Head of State announced that there would be a study into the possibility of trying the same project in other locations, in particular in the new urban districts, and alluded to the need to hold talks with a company that can execute the project, so that solar energy is the system that supplies electricity to urban areas.

The ISA aims to massively reduce the costs associated with solar energy, respond to the strong energy demands in developing countries, and contribute towards the fight against climate change.
