New Delhi hosted, the first International Solar Alliance Summit. India and France are the creators of this project, which is attempting to be global in its environmental and energy aims. The President of the Republic, H. E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, gave a speech at the summit’s opening ceremony.
During the opening ceremony, the President of France, H. E. Emmanuel Macron, and Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, coincided in underlining the importance of the creation of this alliance in order to take greater advantage of solar energy.
The summit is being attended by some twenty heads of State and Governments, among them, H. E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, leading the Equatoguinean delegation.
It was in Paris, during the Climate Change Summit in December 2015, when France and India presented this project, and it achieved firm status and became an international alliance on 6th December 2017.
The framework agreement defining the statutes has been signed by 58 countries, and ratified by 26 of them, and is thus one of the most promising coalitions in the fight against climate change. The International Solar Alliance is the first international organisation with its headquarters on Indian soil; specifically in Gurgaon, on the outskirts of New Delhi.
Its main aim is to bring clean, affordable, renewable energy within the reach of everyone, and promote clean, green, sustainable energy.
To do this, the heads of State are meeting in New Delhi, to seek the application of financial instruments which will allow the release of over one thousand million dollars in investments in solar energy, from now to 2030.
The International Solar Alliance formally came into force on 11th March, with the New Delhi summit. At the ceremony, various presidents and representatives from African, European, Asian and Middle East countries took part.
They have formed a block of 121 countries rich in solar resources; 58 of them have signed the statutes of the organisation, and around twenty have ratified them.
The President of the Republic, H. E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, conscious of the importance of the contributions of everyone towards a clean world, spoke at the plenary session, and presented the Equatoguinean posture regarding the problem of climate change.
The Head of State described this initiative as pertinent, due to the danger implied by the progressive depletion of energy resources due to man-made causes.
In conclusion, H. E. wished the organisation success.
The alliance, with its headquarters in Gurgaon (India) aims to deploy over one thousand gigawatts of solar energy, and release over one thousand million US dollars by 2030, in order to facilitate and accelerate the large-scale deployment of this energy source in developing countries, and thus satisfy the growing energy demand, while at the same time combating climate change.
