Malabo

Malabo, the capital based in Bioko, is a lively and cosmopolitan city. Downtown you’ll find evidence of its colonial past, when Malabo was first the British naval station of Port Clarence on lease from Spain, later renamed Santa Isabel when it was returned to Madrid.

More recently Malabo has become an oil town, base for many international companies and where expatriates kick back and relax at the end of the day.

But although it has become a modern city, Malabo has retained much of its colonial-era architecture, with historical buildings including the former Palace of the Government, cathedral, City Hall and the colonial Casa Verde. Malabo also host the main campus of the UNGE University.

Malabo is well served by several international carriers including Iberia, Air France and KLM and is well connected by road. For all these reasons Malabo is the best starting point for your trip through the country.
